The Technology Ethics eXchange of the NorthEast (teχnē) invites submissions of extended abstracts for an interdisciplinary conference on research and teaching on the ethics of technology, to be hosted at Harvard on May 18-19, 2023.

Potential topics for submissions include but are not limited to:

  • Philosophical research on AI ethics, the ethics of computing, or the ethics of technology generally
  • Social research on the impacts of technologies
  • Interdisciplinary research in responsible computing and responsible technology development
  • Scholarship on educational initiatives in responsible computing and STEM ethics, such as courses, modules, workshops, or masterclasses
  • Pedagogical reports of success stories, challenges, and strategies for teaching ethics to students in technology-focused concentrations

We are inviting submissions of papers for a Special Issue of the journal Topoi, entitled Affectivity and Technology: Philosophical Explorations. The special issue aims to explore the relations between affective states and environmental artifacts and structures. Papers, which should not exceed a maximum of 9000 words, should be written in English, fit for blind review, and must be submitted through the online submission system Editorial Manager, by choosing the category “ S.I.: Affectivity and technology (Fasoli/Heersmink/Piredda)” from the menu “Article Type”. Natalie Monbiot, head of strategy at synthetic media company Hour One, dislikes the word “deepfakes.”

“Deepfake implies unauthorized use of synthetic media and generative artificial intelligence — we are authorized from the get-go,” she told VentureBeat.

She described the Tel Aviv- and New York-based Hour One as an AI company that has also “built a legal and ethical framework for how to engage with real people to generate their likeness in digital form.”

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to play a pivotal role in advancing our degree programs in communication/media and cyberpsychology. The communication/media program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum in communication and media technology with core courses covering all current modes of digital interaction.
