Edited by Lincoln Geraghty, Oliver Gruner and Kremena Dimitrova
Deadline for expressions of interest: September 30, 2026
The Routledge Companion to Media, Space and Place situates media and how it is produced, shared and consumed in different spaces and locations. In an age where global media texts, visuals and technologies allow us access to people and places at anytime and anywhere, the collection argues that user agency and personal identity are important factors in the creation and co-creation of real and imagined places. Indeed, spaces and places are made more tangible and lived through the media. The collection expands our understanding of media through an interdisciplinary approach to concepts of space and place. Chapters focus on how media occupies specific spaces and how those spaces are mediated through different representations. Authors look at a range of physical sites, built environments, popular destinations, modes of transport and technological platforms, while considering the nature of imaginary spaces constructed by users and audiences. Intended to attract a broad academic audience from across a range of related disciplines, the collection also provides accessible case studies for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
CONTENTS
So that we can offer as diverse a range of contributors and chapters as possible, the companion will be divided into 11 thematic sections, with each containing up to 5 chapters of around 5,000 words each (including references – we will be using Chicago in-text citation with bibliography at the end of each chapter). We are seeking contributions from across relevant disciplines, with authors (from PhD to early career to professor) exploring the concepts of media, space and place through an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary lens.
