The Nordic DiGRA Conference returns in spring 2023, this time in Uppsala, Sweden. This will be a fully in-person two-day event on 27 – 28 April 2023.

Nordic DiGRA (Digital Games Research Association) invites research contributions in the form of extended abstracts. We accept deviations from the format as well as creative interpretations (such as panels, workshops, demos, etcetera).

We invite contributions from within and across any discipline committed to advancing knowledge on games. The conference theme this year, Interdisciplinary embraces, speaks to the multidisciplinary nature of the field of games research. You will do research in ethics of technology, at the interface between fundamental philosophical issues and problems arising in the design, implementation, use and regulation of technology. Study: Virtual reality reduces need for anesthesia use during hand surgery

Scientists try to teach robot to laugh

[Reminiscent of a well-acted scene from Star Trek: The Next Generation in which the android Data is given a ‘gift’ of laughter (see Laughing Squid for details and the video clip), researchers in Japan are training a robot to recognize and share laughter during conversations with humans. NFL Pro Era turned me into a quarterback in VR – and it was a total blast
