WORKSHOP FORMAT

The Human Media Interaction group (HMI), University of Twente, invites project proposals for eNTERFACE’16, the 12th Summer Workshop on Multimodal Interfaces to be held in Enschede, the Netherlands from July 18th to August 12th, 2016.

Following the success of the previous eNTERFACE workshops held in Mons (Belgium, 2005), Dubrovnik (Croatia, 2006), Istanbul (Turkey, 2007), Paris (France, 2008), Genova (Italy, 2009), Amsterdam (Netherlands, 2010), Plzen (Czech Republic, 2011), Metz (France, 2012), Lisbon (Portugal, 2013), Bilbao (Spain, 2014), Mons (Belgium, 2015), we have the pleasure to host eNTERFACE’16 in Enschede, the Netherlands. Our aim is to continue the tradition of gathering leading researchers and students in one place to collaborate on creative and innovative projects related to intelligent multimodal interfaces for 4 weeks. This is a unique opportunity for researchers and students from all over the world to meet and collaborate intensively and effectively towards a shared goal. The results of the projects will be published in the workshop proceedings.

During the workshop, there will also be talks and tutorials from invited speakers.

LOCATION

eNTERFACE’16 will be held in the DesignLab located on the campus of the University of Twente (in building The Gallery) in the city of Enschede, the Netherlands. The DesignLab (http://www.utwente.nl/designlab) is a Multidisciplinary Research & Education Center of the UT that focuses on facilitating teamwork in multidisciplinary projects, fuelling inspiration and creativity for technology. Facilities include experiment spaces, meeting rooms, as well as a wood-workshop, a laser cutter, 3d-printers, electronics, and a truss with Kinects and projectors.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

The general procedure of the eNTERFACE workshop series is as follows. Researchers are invited to submit project proposals. The project proposals will be evaluated by the eNTERFACE steering committee. If accepted, the projects will be published and researchers and students are invited to apply for up to 3 projects they would like to be part of. After notifying the applicants, the project leaders can start building their teams.

Notifications of interest and final project proposals must be submitted by email (PDF) to enterface16@gmail.com.

Instructions for the 1-page notification of interest: give the title, a short summary of the proposed research and project, and the names and affiliations of the main researchers.

IMPORTANT DATES

7 December 2015: Submission deadline: 1-page Notification of interest for a project proposal with a summary of project goals, work-packages and deliverables
18 January 2016: Submission deadline: Final project proposal
1 February 2016: Notification of acceptance to project leaders
1 February 2016: Start Call for Participation, participants can apply for projects
7 March 2016: Call for Participation is closed
21 March 2016: Notification of acceptance to participants
21 March 2016: Build your team
18 July – 12 August 2016: eNTERFACE’16 Workshop

ORGANIZATION

eNTERFACE’16 will be organized and hosted by the Human Media Interaction group, University of Twente. The local organization team consists of Khiet Truong, Dennis Reidsma, Dirk Heylen, and Vanessa Evers.
