We are seeking a researcher with a passion & skill for generating consumer insights to help drive the development of world-class entertainment games and experiences. You will be joining a unique team at Microsoft known for pioneering and institutionalizing the adaptation of psychological research methods to games and the entertainment industry.


As a User Researcher on our team, you’ll become part of the engineering process and partner closely with Designers, Program Managers and Developers to be directly involved in creating compelling new experiences around gaming and entertainment. You’ll share the responsibility for ensuring a successful and outstanding user experience for an entire product area, and will be expected to:

  • Bring a wide range of both established and innovative research methods to your work
  • Develop methods to explore and evolve the desirability of our experiences
  • Contribute your research and perspective through the entire product design cycle including planning, execution, finishing, and sustainment
  • Partner with your team in creating research plans and involve and engage them in your research activities to ensure clarity and effectiveness
  • Design and execute appropriate research activities to answer relevant design and or business questions
  • Triangulate instrumentation data with qualitative research insights
  • Provide teams with research context and perspective on what will make our products and services both useful and delightful
  • Partner with other researchers across a diverse team
  • Contribute to building a world-class research organization.


We’re looking for a passionate and innovative User Researcher to join our team. Strong candidates will have the following experiences and qualities:

  • Five or more years of hands-on experience conducting UX research.
  • An advanced degree in psychology, human-computer interaction, or a related user experience field
  • Formal training in user-centered design practices and have both knowledge and experience with evaluative and generative methodologies spanning expert reviews, lab-based studies, field research, and quantitative procedures
  • Ability to combine data signals to tell a clear, persuasive, and insight-focused narrative
  • A strong and demonstrable history of impact and influence on product experience designs, development team partners, and the process of user experience research
  • A love of entertainment and any or all kinds of gaming (Console, PC, Mobile, board games, etc.)
