Call: Second Workshop on Player Modelling (PM 2016) at AIIDE 2016

Second Workshop on Player Modelling (PM 2016)
Held in conjunction with the Twelfth AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment (AIIDE 2016)
8th or 9th of October, 2016 (date TBD), Embassy Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport, California
http://playermodelling.org/

Deadline for paper submissions: 20 July 2016

Player Modelling has always been a core research topic within the game Computational and Artificial Intelligence (CI/AI) research field. The primary focus of this workshop is on the use of CI/AI for understanding players, their actions, decisions, plans, intentions, and their cognitive, behavioural as well as affective manifestations. CI/AI can also be used for capturing, modelling and optimising the player’s experience during gameplay. We argue that the ultimate direct and indirect use of player models is to assess and enhance player experience. On this basis, this workshop attempts to encourage a dialog among researchers in the AI, human-computer interaction, game design, cognitive modelling, affective computing and psychology disciplines who investigate dissimilar methodologies for improving user (player) experiences.

We welcome submissions as either full papers describing novel research (6 pages) or short papers describing work in progress (4 pages). Research areas relevant to player modelling include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Offline or online player modelling.
  • Empirical models of player experience.
  • Psychological and cognitive models of player experience.
  • Quantitative and qualitative assessment of player experience.
  • Capturing and recognising player experience and affect.
  • Use of player experience models to enhance player experience.
  • Game-specific and generalised models of player experience.
  • Theoretical understanding and implications of player modelling.
  • Discussion of different modalities of player modelling.
  • Datasets for player modelling.
  • Methodologies for measuring and evaluating player experience.
  • Content adaptation and personalisation based on player models.

Important Dates

  • Deadline for paper submissions: 20 July 2016
  • Notification for accepted papers: 27 July 2016
  • Deadline for camera-ready papers: 31 August 2016
  • Workshop date: 8 or 9 October 2016 (date TBD)
  • Workshop location: Embassy Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport, California (travel information and registration available at the AIIDE 2016 website)

Submission

We welcome submissions as either full papers describing novel research (6 pages) or short papers describing work in progress (4 pages) plus extra one page for references. All papers should adhere to AAAI formatting. The workshop follows a single-blind review process. Papers should be submitted through EasyChair (Submit here).
