National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)
Division of Intramural Research (DIR)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Bethesda, Maryland (near Washington DC)

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:

  1. Conduct and oversee operations in behavioral research laboratory.
  2. Prepare, maintain, document and operate research tools and technologies including VIRTUAL REALITY, physiological measurement, automated facial expression tracking systems and electronic data collection tools.
  3. Conduct behavioral experiments with human participants using these research tools and technologies; occasionally will occur off site.
  4. Act as liaison with computer programmers and system developers for the creation, modification and maintenance of virtual reality environments and other research tools and content.
  5. Create and educate lab members and colleagues in protocols for using new research technologies.
  6. Contribute to planning and executing plans for development of new research protocols.
  7. Contribute to participant recruitment and scheduling efforts.
  8. Create and Maintain recruitment, participant, lab use and study databases.
  9. Manage interface with NIH Clinical Center procedures and data system.
  10. Work with staff on data coding and preparation.
  11. Prepare presentations and demonstrations of research tools.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  1. MS, MA, or MPH degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Public Health, Human/Computer Interaction or similar.
  2. Three (3) plus years of experience as described above in tasks.
  3. BS degree with 5 years of experience will be considered.
  4. One (1) plus year of experience working on behavioral science research studies with HUMAN subjects.
  5. Experience conducting behavioral research protocols with HUMAN subjects.
  6. Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret experimental data.
  7. Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook), COMPUTER PROGRAMMING, and DATABASE MANAGEMENT.
  8. Experience with VIRTUAL REALITY technology and/or Mobile/Ambulatory Physiological measurement technology.
  9. Advanced knowledge of COMPUTER SOFTWARE applications with demonstrated ability to learn specialized scientific computer programs.
  10. Experience setting up COMPUTER HARDWARE and ability to TROUBLESHOOT computer problems.
  11. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  13. Ability to work independently and closely with a research team.
  14. Must be available to work these hours during human subject recruitment: The 40 Hour/week schedule includes M-F daytime, 2-3 evenings per week (example 12:30-8:30pm), and 2-3 weekend days/month (example 9-5). This is a team effort; you will not work alone.
