Call: International Conference on Consumer Electronics 2013 – Theme: Human-Device Interaction

Call for Papers

ICCE 2013, 11-14 January 2013

Theme: Human-Device Interaction

ICCE 2013 addresses the paradox at the heart of 21st century consumer device design: delivering increasingly rich functionality to the user while masking the corresponding complexity. Devices such as smartphones, tablets and gaming consoles are demonstrating fresh perspectives on modes of human-device interaction, which are evolving to enable users to engage with electronics and information in more intuitive ways. This shift of emphasis goes beyond usability design towards smart devices that evoke a positive user experience by means of personalization, interaction, form, adaptive and natural (e.g. gestural and haptic) interfaces, and will continue to enrich diverse application areas ranging from entertainment to assistive electronics.

The International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE) is soliciting technical papers for oral and poster presentation at ICCE 2013. ICCE has a strong conference history coupled with a tradition of attracting leading authors and delegates from around the world. Papers reporting new developments in all areas of consumer electronics are solicited, including but not limited to those listed below. This year, papers relating to the Human-Device Interaction are particularly welcome. Topics around this major theme will be the content of special sessions and tutorials.

ICCE 2013 will start and overlap with the final day of CES (Friday 11th January). The Friday program will feature our Conference Keynote and a Review of CES by a number of IEEE technical experts followed by a panel discussion. In addition a number of highly topical invited sessions will feature throughout the day on Friday.

Additional Conference Sessions: ICCE has always prided itself on covering a broad spectrum of research activity relevant to Consumer Electronics. ICCE 2013 will incorporate 5 parallel conference tracks of Special, Invited and Associated Sessions allowing coverage of even more topics of current interest to the CE professional.

Tutorials

Numerous tutorials on emerging topics are scheduled during the Conference. Brief proposals should be submitted by June 1st to mzeifman@fraunhofer.org. Proposals must include title, abstract, detailed outline, as well as bio and contact information for the presenter.

Associated Sessions

A selection of the best papers from ICCE is published each year in the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics. Following a new tradition the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society arranges Associated Sessions related to their co-sponsored journals and related societies. Full papers submitted to ICCE for these sessions will be published in the relevant journals subject to the normal peer review process and editorial discretion.

  1. IEEE/OSA Journal on Display Technology
  2. IEEE Transactions on Haptics
  3. IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing
  4. IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games
  5. IEEE Transactions on Autonomous Mental Development

Please note that unsolicited papers submitted to Associated Session must still follow the normal peer-review process. When submitting such papers please mark/note that your paper is intended for a particular session but also include a second choice. If you have been solicited by a member of the ICCE TPC or Executive Committee to submit a paper please mark it explicitly as “invited”.

CEA Special Session: New Products & Technologies

Contributors are very welcome to contact either the Conference Chair (Prof. Reinhard Moeller, r.moeller@computer.org) or Technical Program Chair (Dr Tom Wilson, tomwilson@ieee.org).

Doctoral Workshop

The Doctoral Workshop is a more interactive session than a regular conference paper presentation, with a panel of experienced mentors from academia and industry providing specific advice for improvement on the author’s paper and presentation style, as well as broader advice on which research direction to pursue for a successful PhD and onward career trajectory.
