Call for Proposals:

British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS) Conference 2027
April 11-12, 2027
Newcastle upon Tyne, England
https://www.baftss.org/conference-2027-info.html

Deadline for submissions: November 6, 2026

The 2027 edition of the annual conference and awards ceremony of the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies will be held in Newcastle upon Tyne at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Monday 12 – Wednesday 14 April.

The Conference Organizing Team now invites proposals for individual presentations, pre-constituted panels of up to four presenters, and practice submissions, exploring new research in film, television, and screen studies, from any disciplinary or methodological perspective.

Submissions are invited for:

  • Traditional presentations of 15 minutes
  • Creative practice research concerned with screen media
  • Audio-visual scholarship in any format
  • Pre-constituted panels or Roundtables. Panels must have no fewer than 3, and up to a maximum of 4, presenters; Roundtables may have up to 5 presenters. We especially encourage panels that mix methodologies and approaches (e.g., creative practice research alongside more traditional conference presentations)
  • Poster presentations for our annual PGR showcase, to be displayed at the conference
  • We also invite the Convenors of each BAFTSS Special Interest Group (SIG) to submit one panel/roundtable for consideration

Please note:

  • All attendees must have an active BAFTSS membership by 1 March 2027. You can join, or renew, here
  • Submit using the form(s) available on the official conference website: https://www.baftss.org/conference-2027-info
  • Abstracts should be no more than 250 words. Please also provide a short professional biography
  • Delegates may submit only one proposal for inclusion in the conference programme. However, this does not preclude the submission of additional practice-based research for screening in the conference’s dedicated screening spaces
  • All individuals must comply with the Association’s Code of Conduct

Deadline for submissions: 23:59 (GMT) Friday 6 November 2026.

You will be notified whether your proposal has been accepted by no later than the end of January 2027.
