Call: Social Robotics and Embodied AI: New Frontiers in Remote Presence and HRI

Call for Papers:

Social Robotics and Embodied AI: New Frontiers in Remote Presence and Human-Robot Interaction
For the International Journal of Social Robotics
https://link.springer.com/collections/jdhbbejeeb

Deadline for submissions: December 18, 2026

This Topical Collection explores the next generation of robotic telepresence, advancing from remote communication toward embodied presence. It examines how physical robotic avatars — enriched with AI, haptic feedback, and multimodal interfaces — can transform interaction in healthcare, education, disaster response, and collaborative work. The collection covers telerobotics, shared autonomy, human-robot interaction, cognitive architectures, and the ethical implications of AI-mediated presence. It aims to establish a common language for embodied telepresence bridging robotics, AI, and human–robot interaction.

ABOUT THE EDITOR

Sara Falcone is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Pace University’s Seidenberg School (New York, USA). Her research focuses on human–machine interaction, teleoperation, and embodied cognition, examining how control strategies and multimodal feedback shape embodiment in robotic and XR systems. She holds a PhD from the University of Twente and has held visiting positions at Sorbonne Nouvelle and Princeton University. Her work is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She co-organizes the IEEE Telepresence Conference (2025–2026) and chairs the ICRA 2026 workshop on Embodied AI and Telepresence.
