We are delighted to announce the third Animex Research and Innovation Conference 2025, taking place at Teesside University on Wednesday 19th November. The conference aims to bring together new and established scholars and practitioners from animation, VFX and games to share research in their disciplines. This year it will again be part of the Animex Festival programme, allowing you to enjoy the wider festivities. Animex brings together experts in animation, VFX and games from across the world. TOPICS

We’re seeking submissions for proposals for 20-minute conference presentations from across the fields of animation, VFX, games and adjacent disciplines. All topics will be considered but we encourage the following:

  • Animation studies
  • Creature FX
  • Dynamic simulation
  • Extended reality, virtual reality and augmented reality
  • Game studies
  • Gesture recognition and motion analysis
  • Information visualisation
  • Machine learning and AI for animation and games
  • Motion capture and retargeting
  • Multimodal interaction: haptics, sound
  • Participatory and Immersive approaches
  • Practice-based research
  • Procedural Animation
  • Real-time animation/simulation
  • Serious games, MedTech, industrial applications and/or Digital Twins
  • User experience and interface
  • Virtual humans and autonomous actors
  • Virtual production

SUBMISSION FORMATS

We are accepting proposals for individual 20-minute conference presentations and specialist panels.

20-minute conference presentations: a 300-word abstract and 100-word biographical statement.

Specialist panels: a 300-word panel summary, 300-word abstract (for each paper), and a 100-word biographical statement for each panel member. Panels contain a maximum of three 20-minute conference papers. Panels provide an opportunity to engage in discussion with each other and the audience and will run for 80 minutes including questions. The chair of the panel must provide the submission requirements on behalf of all panel members.

TIMELINE SUBMISSION AND ACCEPTANCE:

Deadline for Submissions: 27 June 2025 Midnight UTC
Notification of acceptance: 25 July 2025
Conference date: 19 November 2025 (Teesside University, Middlesbrough UK/Online)
