Submission deadline: August 30, 2024

As is tradition for MultiPlay, we have a special horror related conference for the end of October. This time we are focusing on the monstrous (and liberational!) possibilities of body augmentation through video games. We welcome abstracts from utopian and dystopian perspectives, on the real life hardware capabilities or upon representations of augmentation within games.

We are currently seeking abstracts related to body augmentation, and the impact of technology on identities. Abstracts should be 300 words, to be accompanied with a 100 word author biography. Please send all abstracts to networkmultiplay@gmail.com with the heading ‘Cyborg Conference’ by Friday 30th August.

Some prompts for abstracts include (but in no way should limit submissions):

  • Biometrics
  • Life as a bodily play
  • Bodily transformations
  • Player-cyborg relations
  • Posthuman play
  • The ‘end of future’
  • Hardware limitations and integrations
  • Character and avatar transitions

Presentations will last 20 minutes, to be followed by a 10 minute Q&A session. This conference will be online on the evening of October 28th. Tickets will be free and our talks are uploaded onto our YouTube channel (with permission from the speakers) for those who cannot attend on the day.

We welcome a range of methodologies from autoethnographies, close textual analysis, participant action research, player observations and more.

If you have any further questions, please email networkmultiplay@gmail.com
