The Lucerne School of Information Technology is the first school in a Swiss university of applied sciences to be devoted to IT. The new Zug-Rotkreuz campus offers bachelor degree programmes in Digital Ideation, Computer Science, Information and Cyber Security, International IT Management and Business Information Technology and master’s degree programmes in Engineering and Business Information Technology. Rounding out the School’s offer are attractive continuing education courses and applied research and services. It is one of six Schools making up the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with its 1800-plus staff and 11,500 or so degree and continuing education students.

The Immersive Realities Research Lab was established in 2018 and investigates how people use augmented and virtual reality technologies. The group focuses on the role of users in these contexts and studies new types of interactions. Current AR/VR projects include among others participatory design within urban planning projects, a serious game for beekeepers, a hybrid art exhibition, and tangible learning tools for teaching about electricity. All projects have in common strong interdisciplinarity and pursue the overall mission of facilitating understanding.

We are currently looking to grow our team and have openings for both junior and senior research positions for a start in early 2021.

YOUR TASKS

  • You work jointly with our lecturers and academic staff on research and development projects with a focus on novel and appropriate uses of augmented and virtual reality
  • You develop, implement and evaluate innovative concepts and solutions as AR/VR software prototypes in research and industry projects
  • You support our research team in the acquisition of new projects, take responsibility for work-packages and project management and independently and collaboratively investigate research questions
  • You supervise student projects and diploma theses Participation in lecturing or further education is possible according to agreement

YOUR PROFILE

  • Curiosity and a passion for research
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of AR- and VR-applications
  • Good programming skills, for example in C# or C++
  • Experience with modern Game Engines such as Unity
  • Experience in Human-Computer Interaction (qualitative and/or quantitative user studies, user-centered design, user experience)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; German advantageous (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to explain complex facts and ideally experience with writing scientific texts
  • Active contribution in our self-organizing research team

In addition, for a senior position

  • Research experience in industry or academia or PhD
  • Experience in acquiring and managing research projects
