ABOUT THE JOB

The Illusioneering Lab at the University of Minnesota is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in virtual/augmented reality and human-computer interaction.  The Illusioneering Lab applies interdisciplinary theories from the cognitive and behavioral sciences to advance immersive technologies and create impactful mixed reality experiences. Research in the lab focuses on three core areas: (1) Immersion: Virtual and augmented reality technologies can create compelling illusions of being transported to a distant place or sharing space with someone who is not actually present. (2) Perception: Immersive media provide new opportunities to study human perception and investigate phenomena that would be impossible to experience in the real world. (3) Interaction: 3D user interfaces are inherently spatial and embodied, with emerging applications in data analysis, education, health care, and entertainment. Duties/Responsibilities:

60% – The primary responsibility of the postdoctoral associate will be to conduct high-quality research related to the PI’s ongoing projects in virtual reality and human-computer interaction. Specific research topics may include redirected walking, visual perception, cybersickness, and communication mediated through immersive technologies. The candidate may also explore new research areas at the intersection of virtual/augmented reality and robotics.

20% – The postdoctoral associate will also be provided the opportunity to pursue their own individual research interests. It is expected that they would begin to develop an independent research agenda, with mentorship from the PI.
