Sol Rogers, Contributor, CEO and Founder of REWIND, an Emmy nominated immersive content studio that fuses bleeding-edge technology with award-winning creative storytelling.
September 20, 2019

Modern dating is a far cry from the courtship our grandparents experienced. In the past, people met their partners at work, on a night out, or at church. Then came the internet and cellular technology—suddenly, distance was not an issue, and the phrase “plenty of fish” has never rung truer.

Around 40% of Americans use online dating, contributing to the $3 billion industry that’s set to grow 25% by 2020. Online dating is no longer seen as a last-ditch attempt to find love.… read more. “Move over online dating! Virtual reality is the future of finding love”

Call: Fiction, Narrative and Art Beyond Literature – Barcelona Workshop 12

Call for Papers

Fiction, Narrative and Art Beyond Literature
Barcelona Workshop 12
Universitat de Barcelona
29–30 April 2020
https://easychair.org/cfp/bw12

Submission deadline: 31 December 2019

The Barcelona Workshop has been the signature event of the LOGOS Research Group in Analytic Philosophy for over 20 years. It is a small-format conference, with no parallel sessions, that aims to provide ample space for discussion and informal interaction among participants.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

  • Susan Feagin (Temple)
  • Andrew Kania (Trinity)
  • Kathleen Stock (Sussex)

THE THEME

Literature has so far played a central role in the philosophical debates concerning fiction, narrative and the cognitive relevance of art. This makes sense if one considers that the linguistic nature of literary works has enabled helpful connections between aesthetics and the philosophy of language. However, the realm of art extends far beyond literature. This workshop aims to encourage philosophical research on issues concerning fiction, narrative and art that have been so far mainly considered with respect to literature but are importantly related also to other forms of art.… read more. “Call: Fiction, Narrative and Art Beyond Literature – Barcelona Workshop 12”

AirPods, an Augmented-Reality Wearable Computer

For Real Life magazine, Drew Austin writes about wireless headphones and their potential effect on the public sphere if many people start wearing them. The bit that particularly caught my eye was the subtitle of the piece:

Wireless headphones are augmented reality devices.

And further down the page:

Much as phones have enabled and concretized the always-on nature of everyday life, introducing the constant interpenetration of physical and digital space to individual experience, wireless earbuds facilitate a deeper integration, an “always in” existence that we need never interrupt by looking down at a screen.… read more. “AirPods as augmented-reality wearable computer”

Call: Urban Play Design Camp

Call for Participation

Urban Play Design Camp
3-4 October 2019
Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Join us at the Urban Play Design Camp (3-4 October, 9.30-17.30, at Garage Notweg, Notweg 38, 1068 LL Amsterdam), a 2-days practical workshop to discover the techniques for creating games for cities. Students, practitioners, community organizers, activists, artists, researchers are all welcome. The Urban Play Design Camp provides participants with a hands-on practical introduction to the process of inventing, prototyping and testing playful activities in public spaces.

Why working on games and cities? While smartphones promise to connect us with far-away people, we risk losing contact with our neighbors and with the communities close by. Play is an antidote to dull and alienating urban spaces. More and more designers, architects, and public officials are looking at games as effective tools to re-engage people with their cities. Promoting play in public may be a new and effective form of community participation.… read more. “Call: Urban Play Design Camp”
