ABOUT US
Cologne Game Lab is part of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS).
Founded in 2010 as an independent institute of CUAS and initially funded by the EU ́s Objective 2 Program, CGL launched with a pioneering approach, offering the first artistic and academic postgraduate program in Game Development and Research (M.A.) across Germany. By addressing digital pioneers from all audiovisual media disciplines and bringing them together in an experimental environment with professionals from the games industry, the institute soon became a national hotspot and think tank for the future of gaming. With the expiration of funding in 2013, CGL transformed to become an integral part of the university ́s educational and research strategy, joining the Faculty of Cultural Sciences with its affiliate institutes Köln International School of Design (KISD) and Cologne Institute of Conservatory Sciences (CICS). Until today Cologne Game Lab has been involved in a series of top-level research projects with a focus on the creation of innovative content for new technologies. Moreover, the CGL biannual Notgames Fest, an exhibition focussing on experiential game design, and the game design track at the Clash of Realities Computer Game Conference have evolved into solid brands which continue to draw game professionals, students, enthusiast and critics.In 2014 CGL has tendered its first undergraduate program Digital Games (B.A.) with the aim to further contribute to the expansion of a diverse, sustainable and future oriented development of the games industry both on a national and international level.
