Job Description

Immersion has an immediate opening for a Research Engineer/Scientist at its Montreal, Canada location. The Researcher should be an enthusiastic, self motivated and highly creative individual that will be responsible for advancing Immersion’s haptic technology collaborating with a dynamic and multidisciplinary group. The research activities will focus on improving the user experience of interactive systems through the implementation of novel rendering (haptic) algorithms, multimodal interfaces, and creating new ideas/concepts to enhance Immersion patent portfolio. The Researcher will apply haptic rendering research methodologies and approaches to identify, develop and demonstrate the value of novel haptic technologies for end users. In addition, the candidate will work with state of the art and unique haptic devices developed internally. This position requires interaction with Research, UX, and product development groups. The ideal candidate will have a strong documented record of innovation (papers, patents, etc.) and a PhD in haptics or related area (e.g. computer science, control systems, robotics, systems engineering.)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and development in haptics and user interfaces
    • Design and implement novel haptic rendering algorithms for human computer interfaces
    • Design and implement novel multimodal interfaces
  • Collaborate with other research team members and support product development engineering activities as needed
  • Develop significant specialized knowledge in one or more areas of haptics
  • Assist in the development of intellectual property

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Haptics, computer science, control systems, robotics, systems engineering or related areas
  • Basic Knowledge on the design and implementation of signal processing and/or control systems algorithms
  • Strong programming skills in an object oriented computer language
  • Experience with collaborative research projects
  • Demonstrated innovation (publications, design awards, patents, etc.)
  • Self motivated, dynamic and can do attitude

Preferred additional skills:

  • 2+ years of experience developing haptic interfaces
  • Experience in developing embedded systems (firmware)
  • MATLAB/RTW/xPC
  • UX design
