Call: Materials and Sensations 2012

Materials and Sensations 2012

MS 2012 is the third meeting of the “Materials and Sensations” series, for researchers and engineers from a variety of disciplines interested in the role of physical, chemical, mechanical properties of materials in the elicitation of sensations and emotions. It aims to stimulate research on appearance-based engineering of materials, and to promote discussion and collaboration between scientists from industry and academia. Visual, tactile and non-cosmetic olfactory properties will be given special attention, but the field of auditory properties shall also be considered. Through modelling issues, special attention will be given to comparison or mixing of real and synthetic stimuli.

The workshop will take place in Pau, France, from the 10th to the 12th of October, 2012.

The workshop will include sessions for oral presentations and for posters.

If you are interested in being considered for an oral presentation, please submit your abstract (250 words maximum) online by June 1st, 2012 at: http://www.2psm.fr/ms2012 (open soon).

Call for abstracts:

MS 2012 Workshop: Materials and Sensations
October 10-12, 2012
Pau, France

New tendencies arise in the field of material-sensations studies since the last edition of the “Materials and Sensations” series. Nanomaterials are spreading, together with proper physical paradigms that are not well addressed regarding the perception of stimuli. A growing use is made of multiphysics simulation and computer representation, but well known programming suites don’t have modules to interpret physical outputs in terms of sensations. In the field of observer’s experience, new knowledge of treatments of impinging stimuli leads to new observer-centered modeling of sensations.

The organizing committee of MS2012 wishes that this third edition addresses these questions through four sessions which will focus on:

  1. Physical and chemical elicitation of sensations by materials
  2. Modeling and simulation
  3. Sensorial and perceptual systems
  4. Emotions and materials

We invite abstracts for presentations or posters, related to any of these four topics from different scientific areas, including (but not limited to):

  • Data processing and representation
  • New approaches of sensory properties
  • Formulation/composition/additives
  • Material engineering
  • Mathematical Modelling
  • Cognitive Sciences models applied to materials
  • Observation and quantification methodologies
  • Perception
  • Physical Modelling
  • Processing
  • Sensation
  • Sensorial Properties Prediction
  • Sensors
  • Structure/Texture/Topography
