Application deadline: March 8, 2024

We are an academic research laboratory at the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences, University of South Australia. Directed by Prof. Mark Billinghurst, we are investigating Empathic Computing.

RESEARCH THEMES:

  • Empathic Computing
  • Collaborative Interfaces
  • Augmented Reality
  • Virtual Reality

WHAT WE DO:

Empathy is about seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another. Empathic Computing is a research field that develops computer systems that recognise and share emotions and help people better understand one another. Our team is working to make empathic computing mainstream and investigate both software and hardware components to enable this technology, along with researching the usability of such interfaces.

This website collects together projects by the Empathic Computing Lab at the University of South Australia. You can also look at the publications by our team members and latest news. We are always looking for talented students, post-docs, and visiting researchers to join our team. If our research interests you feel free to contact us for more information.

VIRTUAL INTERNSHIPS

The Empathic Computing Laboratory has openings for virtual interns for three or six month projects. This is a way for excellent students to complete internships with the staff and students of the Empathic Computing Laboratory without needing to travel from their home countries or institutions.

The part time internship are unpaid, but provide a number of benefits, including working closely with lab PhD students, co-authorship on academic research papers, recommendation letters and assistance with applying to post-graduate schools, and the opportunity for further study at the Empathic Computing Laboratory.

A list of projects available can be found from the link below, and more information could be found here.
