As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes more prevalent, concerns about biased decision-making, mistrust, safety, and gaps in responsibility as well as accountability become increasingly pressing. While eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is seen as a crucial and central means of mitigating these risks, a more comprehensive understanding of XAI is still required that considers not only technical aspects but also societal, psychological, legal, and ethical requirements of AI explanations.

The special track Interdisciplinary Perspectives on XAI at the First World Conference on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI 2023) aims to provide a forum for discussing and exploring these issues, bringing together experts from various disciplines to advance the field of XAI. The topics of interest include but are not limited to:

• Psychological notions and concepts for XAI
• Philosophical consideration of synthetic explanations
• XAI as prerequisite for responsible, AI-supported decision-making
• XAI, humans-in-the-loop, and effective human oversight
• The impact of XAI on trust(worthiness) and acceptance
• Explainability & responsibility in policy guidelines
• The epistemic & moral goods expected from explaining AI
• Moral principles & dilemma for XAI-based systems
• Legal considerations for explainable AI
• Explainable AI for decision support in critical systems
• The societal implications of XAI

The conference committee welcomes three different types of article submissions: full articles (12 to 24 pages, including references), short articles (6 to 12 pages, including references), and extended abstracts (3 to 6 pages, including references). The committee encourages authors to carefully consider the appropriate type of submission based on the scope and depth of their research, as well as the level of detail they wish to provide (see https://xaiworldconference.com/submit-article/ for more information).

• Article submission:  April 20, 2023
