BACKGROUND

The School of Science & Technology is a multi-disciplinary centre of research and education located in the heart of London’s vibrant design community.

The Department of Computer Science has over 580 undergraduate students and over 340 masters and 55 doctoral research students. We have strengths in several areas of Human Computer Interaction Design, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Visual Analytics, Cybersecurity, Reliability and Safety.

The Centre for HCI Design (HCID) is one of the longest established Human-Computer Interaction groups in the UK. As part of City’s Department of Computer Science, we are within walking distance from diverse communities, cultural institutions, and a thriving tech industry. The Centre offers a distinguished MSc programme, world-leading research, and a profitable consultancy service. Along with a strong and supportive culture, our ethos is to create meaningful experiences with technology that improve the conditions people live in.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic to the role of Lecturer in HCI (Research and Education profile). The successful applicant will conduct innovative, world-leading research in the areas of interaction design, HCI and/or computer-supported cooperative work. This may include, but not be limited to areas such as HCI for healthcare, visual interaction design, CSCW, ethics in Computer Science research and education, accessible design, socially responsible “design for good” etc. The successful applicant will also teach across modules delivered by the Department of Computer Science and, in particular, the HCID programme.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The appointed candidate will have a PhD in HCI, Computer Science or a related area, and an international reputation for research within one of the areas listed under Responsibilities. They will also have experience teaching HCI-related materials and be eager to develop and strengthen our outstanding HCID MSc programme. Beyond immediate experience, we are seeking candidates who will contribute to the vitality of our welcoming and supportive research environment.
