ATA 2015 is the world’s largest meeting and trade show focused on the use of telecommunications in healthcare. The meeting will bring into focus hundreds of presentations about the rapidly evolving and fast growing areas of connected healthcare including telemedicine, telehealth, mobile health and remote health monitoring.

This is your opportunity to share critical research findings, innovations, and best practices before thousands of leaders in healthcare, technology and public policy from around the world. Presentations will be selected by an elite group of 50 thought-leaders in health and technology. Accepted presenters will be showcased both in front of attendees and online as part of ATA’s Learning Center. Press coverage will highlight many presentations in media outlets throughout the world.

Tips for a Successful Presentation Proposal:

  1. We are looking for presentations that are transformative, relevant and include information that brings value to health and technology institutions, individuals, corporations, payers and regulators.
  2. Narratives must be well-written and include a high-level of detail and specificity that clearly conveys the subject of the presentation and include a title, background, objectives, takeaways and conclusions.
  3. Proposals can come from non-profit, governmental or commercial interests but cannot promote a specific commercial product or service.

Any selected presentations of research projects or studies should be validated with a large sample size, have useful outcomes and be completed by the time of the meeting.

ATA 2015 Presentation Categories

ATA 2015 will highlight presentations that focus on best practices, cost savings, critical findings and innovative applications within one of the 9 presentation categories below:

  1. RESEARCH, OUTCOMES & EVIDENCE – Findings from completed research based on a large population, which follow scientifically valid procedures and include data and critical findings.
  2. BUSINESS & ECONOMICS OF TELEHEALTH – Proven, sustainable business plans and public-private business ventures, securing and managing payment for services , cost reduction strategies, economic considerations for outsourcing clinical services and documenting return on investment (ROI).
  3. LEGAL AND REGULATORY– Includes new payment approaches, strategies for removing regulatory and legislative barriers, state, federal and international public policy innovations and tactics for expanding and sustaining policy support.
  4. CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT – Successful best practices and delivery models focused on treating chronic diseases including remote patient monitoring, payment strategies, reducing readmissions, outcome metrics for the treatment of specific chronic diseases, and technologies to empower patient self-care.
  5. TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICE INTEGRATION – Success stories integrating telemedicine, telehealth, mHealth, and HIT infrastructure, technologies and delivery models into healthcare delivery systems, automation of clinical diagnostics, treatment and decision-making, emerging technological advances or other “outside the box,” noteworthy advances in the telemedicine industry. (May not be commercial.)
  6. OPERATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION – Best practices, successful implementation and design strategies for service providers and model programs, including small practice implementation considerations.
  7. DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER SERVICES – Successful delivery models focused on patient engagement and the consumer market such as online direct-to-consumer services and patient portals.
  8. MOBILE HEALTH – New innovations and successful approaches to the integration of mobile technologies into existing systems of healthcare delivery with a focus on clinical practice and work flow and patient engagement, and mobile applications for patient care.
  9. CLINICAL SERVICES– Includes service delivery models, outcomes and best practices within clinical specialty areas such as mental health, critical care, pediatrics, primary and urgent care, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, rehabilitation, etc.

Presentation Formats

An abstract may be submitted for any one of the following five presentation formats:

1. INDIVIDUAL ORAL PRESENTATION

15-minute, stand-alone, independent presentation (not a panel presentation) to be placed within a concurrent session and track. Presenter is allotted 20 minutes total, including 15 minutes for presentation time and 5 minutes for Q&A. Presenter will be placed on a 60-minute individual oral panel, consisting of two other individual oral presentations of similar or related content. Only one presenter per abstract. The ATA Peer Review Committee reserves the right to accept an oral submission as an ePoster presentation.

2. PANEL PRESENTATION

Moderated panel presentation of 3 – 4 experts on a related topic. Moderator leads discussion or individual presentations and Q&A with panel members. The total session time is 60 minutes and typically consists of up to four 10-15 minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of questions, with 10-15 minutes at the end of the session for closing discussion or additional Q&A. The panels will be judged as a whole and if it does not meet the criteria of the judges will be turned down in its entirety. When submitting an abstract for a panel, contact information, bios and disclosures for all panel participants must be included.

3. HOW-TO SESSION

Tutorial for the novice in telehealth with 1 – 2 speakers. Addresses a specific topic or issue in telehealth and provides practical lessons learned. The total session time is 60 minutes including a minimum time of 15 minutes allotted for questions and answers with the audience. The panel will be judged as a whole and if it does not meet the criteria of the judges it will be turned down in its entirety.

4. INDIVIDUAL EPOSTER PRESENTATION

Scientific ePosters are accessible and on display at computer terminals Sunday, May 3rd – Tuesday, May 5th. ePoster authors will present in a lightning round or rapid fire session and are allotted 4 minutes for an oral presentation (10 slides max) followed by 3 minutes for Q&A. The ATA Peer Review Committee reserves the right to accept a poster submission as an oral presentation. ePoster presentations will be judged by a committee and recognition will be given to the top four posters. These posters are also eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

5. PRE-MEETING CERTIFICATE COURSE

Full-day (6 hours) and half-day (3 hours) courses provide comprehensive coverage of a specific topic related to telemedicine. Certificate courses are held on Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd. Saturday full-day courses are scheduled from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a one-hour lunch break. Sunday full-day courses are scheduled from 8:00am – 3:00pm with a one-hour lunch break.   Sunday half-day courses are scheduled from 8:00am – 11:00am and 12:00pm – 3:00pm. Full-day or half-day courses that are selected are placed in a morning, afternoon or full-day time slot.

Pre-Meeting Course proposals must include: course title, course description (500 words or less), 3 – 5 course learning objectives, description of unique aspects of the course, list of takeaways, references, suggested reading list, course moderator’s name and contact information, complete list of faculty including contact information, bio (100 words maximum in length) and completed disclosure statement for each faculty person listed in the proposal. Contact information for moderator and faculty must include: name, credentials, title, organization, city, state, zip code, phone, fax, email. There is a limit of one moderator plus 3 – 5 faculty for full-day courses and 1 – 2 faculty for half-day courses. Incomplete proposals will not be considered for inclusion in the program.

Selection Criteria

All abstract submissions go through a peer-review process that ensures the integrity and relevance of educational content. Peer reviewers from all membership constituencies, including private, academic, corporate, institutional, and government sectors, carefully review and score abstracts to ensure the 2015 ATA educational program is one of high quality and geared toward meeting the diverse needs of those in attendance.
