The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is the premiere international academic media organization driving insights, excellence in media production and career advancement for educators, students and professionals.  BEA’s annual convention traditionally produces over 250 sessions on media pedagogy, collaborative networking events, hands-on technology workshops, research and creative scholarship and the Festival of Media Arts.  Co-located with NAB Show, where the broadcast, media and entertainment industry converged to experience innovation in action and harness the power of possibility. BEA Research Committee Special Call: AI

The BEA Research Committee invites submission of original, non-published research papers to be considered for presentation at the BEA Conference April 13-16 in Las Vegas.

The BEA Research Committee is looking for research that addresses topics relevant to AI.  Research could range from message production to message dissemination to message consumption across various mediated formats. Some topics may include AI and digital marketing, AI and social media insights, AI and crisis responses, AI’s impact on communication with key publics, the role of AI in sports, or the role of AI in mass communication. Research may also examine the idea of how communication research methods and theory need to be updated to address AI or AI ethics in regard to research and society.

All research papers must be uploaded through the online server to the BEA Research Committee special call link [above] by December 15, 2023.

  1. Submit the paper via the BEA website link to the BEA Research Committee special call. Files should be Word or a PDF. A PDF is strongly encouraged. No identifying information should be included on the paper or in file properties.
  2. The paper should be uploaded to the server no later than 11:59 PM (Central Daylight Time).
  3. An abstract of no more than 75 words will also be required.
  4. Completely fill out the online submission form with author(s) name, affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address. The title should be printed on the first page of the text and on running heads on each page of text, as well as on the title page. Do NOT include author’s name on running heads or title page.
  5. Papers uploaded with author’s identifying information will not be considered for review and will be automatically disqualified.
  6. Papers are accepted for peer review on the understanding that they are not already under review for other conferences and that they have been submitted to only ONE BEA group for evaluation. Papers accepted should not have been presented to other conferences or published in scholarly or trade journals prior to presentation at the conference.
  7. Papers submitted with both faculty and student authors will be considered faculty papers and are not eligible for student competitions.
  8. At least one author of an accepted paper must attend the conference to present the paper.
  9. The papers submitted should use APA style (double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font). They should not exceed 30 pages (including title/abstract/references).
  10. Papers should include an introductory section, a literature review, method section, results section, and a discussion section.
