The Department of Communication Studies at TCNJ invites outstanding applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in emerging communication technologies and social media to begin in Fall 2021. We are seeking a colleague whose teaching and research focuses on the uses and effects of emerging communication technologies and social media. A PhD in communication or related fields is required. (ABD status will be considered; however, degree must be conferred prior to start date).

Specifically, we seek to build strength in the areas of human-machine communication, social media and mobile communication, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, and games. The candidate’s teaching and research can address concepts and fundamental processes central to the above mentioned digitally-mediated communication, and the social, behavioral, and/or psychological impact of one or more of these communication technologies. Candidates whose research programs have the potential to make social influence and social change are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should complement the strengths of existing faculty whose specialties lie in mediated communication and social influence, emerging communication technologies, interpersonal and leadership communication, and health and wellness communication. The ideal candidate will create innovative, interdisciplinary research with multiple methods (traditional quantitative and qualitative, and emerging research methods) and offer courses that bridge academia and practice.  Industry experience and grant seeking abilities is a plus. The candidate should be committed to promoting diverse and underrepresented voices.

A typical semester teaching load is three courses. All new faculty members will automatically participate in the New Faculty Support of Scholarship (NFSS) program, which provides a 2/3 (or 3/2) academic year teaching load in two of the first years at TCNJ. After three years, faculty can apply for the Support of Scholarly Activities (SOSA) program, which provides opportunities for faculty to earn a one-course teaching release annually to support student and faculty research.
