http://www.uxofai.org/cfp-2020.php

Submission deadline: May 4 2020

The 2020 Workshop on User Experience and Artificial Intelligence encompasses the intersection between UX and AI as it they manifest in games, as it pertains to how the player interacts with the embedded AI systems through the game. The AI systems may take the form as artifacts or underlying components for personalization, adaptation or content creation.

We wish to act as a point of interaction between researchers specialized within these fields, in the hope that this will help facilitate research that allows for the creation of more interesting and robust AI based game experiences, construed very broadly. This includes, but is not limited to, human experiences with procedural content generation, personalization, player modeling, analytics, agent-based models, or other AI-based systems or artifacts within games. We hope to connect researchers working within many disciplinary orientations, including computer science, human-computer interaction, social science, and cognitive and social psychology. Of particular interest are studies on how we create interesting game experiences using AI as an underlying architecture, and how these are interpreted by players.

The 2020 workshop on User Experience of Artificial Intelligence in Games aims to build a community centered on this by putting forward demonstrations of work combining UX and AI, as well as models and theories that can be used to create understanding where the areas intersect. We especially welcome demonstrations of work in progress or work showcasing new ideas.

The workshop is co-located and organised with the 2020 Foundations of Digital Games (FDG) conference in Malta. The exact workshop date is TBD, but will take place sometime during the conference (September 15-18, 2020).

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • the believability and presentation of non-player characters
  • the modelling of players to inform AI artifacts
  • the UX of procedurally generated and personalized content
  • user-centric examinations of the AI technologies, such as generative narratives, assisted game design, the presentation of AI artifacts, and the perception of AI in games
  • of particular interest are studies on game experiences using AI, and how these are interpreted by players

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The workshop will accept submissions in the form of papers and demos/artifacts. Submissions will be subject to double-blind peer review. Each submission will receive feedback from at least three reviewers. Authors of accepted submissions will be invited to give an oral presentation of their submission. We are especially interested in seeing work in progress or discussions of open issues within the field.
