Presence humor: Sleeping student uses life-size photo of himself in class so it looks like he’s paying attention

[The school year is starting for many of us, so here’s a story about how a student supposedly created a (presence) illusion so he can appear attentive in class while he sleeps. The story from the Daily Mail includes the 11 second video and three images; the post and hundreds of comments about it are available on Reddit; and the creator, Zach King, has posted many other illusions on YouTube. The hilarious moment a student gets busted sleeping behind a canvas portrait of himself has gone viral, but is it a set-up.

The video shows a class full of young adults listening to a teacher – one man toward the back of the room looks particularly keen to learn.

The camera zooms in on the man who has his hand on his chin and his book open in front of him.

Moments later it is revealed the man is actually sleeping behind a life-sized portrait of himself.

As the camera moves around to show him having his nap the man next to him pokes him to get his attention.

The star of the video quickly whips the board away – putting it beside his desk as he struggles to look at the actual book.

The title for the looped video on Reddit is ‘focused Asian student’.

Many Reddit users are unconvinced of the authenticity of the video.

‘Pretty sure it looks so good because it is using compositing. The photo was never printed. It’s a still from when the camera was still on the tripod and he was ‘attentive’,’ said one.

‘Why are a bunch of 30 year olds in high school?’ questioned another.

While others critique the man’s moves.

‘LOOL, Rookie error. That pose is wayyy to interested in the topic, he is begging to be included in the lecture material.’
