You will be contributing to the design and technical development strands of the ESRC-funded CuRAtOR (http://curator.r1zeek.net/) and LIDA (http://lida-project.org/) projects, both of which are investigating the role of digital technologies in fostering empathy, trust and dialogue between disconnected and stigmatised groups. You will take a leading role in engaging with research participants and users, and the conduct of user-centred and participatory design activities. You will also lead in the design and technical development of Internet of Things based concepts and prototypes, which will be trialled and evaluated ‘in the wild’ as part of the projects. Contributing to the design and technical development strands of the ESRC-funded CuRAtOR and LIDA projects, investigating the role of digital technologies in fostering empathy, trust and dialogue between disconnected and stigmatised groups.

You will possess a PhD in interaction design, human-computer interaction or a related field (awarded or near completion) and a publication track record in internationally leading venues across these areas. Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams and good communication skills, as well as prototyping and software development skills are essential. A good understanding or experience of planning and conducting user-centred and/or participatory design as well as a good appreciation of study design is required. You should have experience of conducing qualitative studies and evaluations of technologies ‘in the wild’.

This post will involve travel around the UK for short periods during design and evaluation phases of the project. Occasional travel to stay with project collaborators in the South West (Bath and Exeter) and East Midlands (Loughborough and Lincoln) and occasional weekend work will also be required.
