Call for Papers:

Neurotechnology and the Future of Creativity
A hybrid Conference on Neurotechnology and Creativity

University for the Creative Arts (UCA)
UK
Week beginning January 26, 2026
From the ART-TECHNOLOGY e-list: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa-jisc.exe?A2=ind2507&L=ART-TECHNOLOGY&O=D&P=5450

Deadline for submission of abstracts and bios: October 27, 2025

The intersection of neuroscience, technology, and creativity is unlocking new ways of understanding human cognition, behaviour, and the creative process. As neurotechnology advances, it raises profound questions about the future of human potential, artistic expression, and the boundaries between human and non-human intelligence. This hybrid conference invites scholars, practitioners, and students to explore the latest research, speculative ideas, and experimental applications of neurotechnology in creative fields, including advertising, architecture, art, crafts, design, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, software, TV, radio, and video games.

This explorative and speculative event will bring together leading researchers, artists, designers, and technologists to discuss how neurotech is influencing the creative industries, from brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and AI-assisted creativity to neuroaesthetics, cognitive augmentation, and immersive experiences. Through a combination of keynote talks, panel discussions, and paper presentations, the conference will provide a platform for dialogue, experimentation, and cutting-edge insights into the role of neurotechnology in shaping creative futures.

We invite submissions for papers on topics including but not limited to:

  • Neurotechnology & Creativity – How are BCIs and cognitive tracking influencing creative practice?
  • AI & Cognitive Augmentation – The intersection of artificial intelligence, human cognition, and creativity. Examining the interplay between artificial intelligence, brain data, and creative decision-making.
  • Neuroaesthetics & Perception – How neuroscience informs artistic and design decisions, particularly within CCI (garment creation and interactive textiles, human interaction in architecture and related fields)
  • Speculative Neurotech Futures – Ethical, philosophical, and transhumanist perspectives on emergent intelligence.
  • Immersive & Interactive Technologies – The role of neurotech in VR, AR, and digital experience.
  • Consciousness & Creativity – Exploring altered states, meditation, and neuroplasticity in the creative process.
  • Ethics & Ownership in Neuro-Creativity – The implications of neurotech in authorship, agency, and intellectual property.
  • Neurotech and Communication – The role of neuroscience in shaping advertising, digital content, and consumer experiences.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We welcome proposals for Academic Papers (20-minute presentations)

Please submit an abstract of up to 500 words along with a short bio (max 150 words) to katie.rees@uca.ac.uk by Monday 27th October 2025 (10 AM BST). Notifications of acceptance will be sent by Monday 24th November 2025.

CONFERENCE FORMAT & KEY THEMES

The hybrid conference will include:

  • Keynote Presentations – Insights from leading researchers and practitioners.
  • Panel Discussions – Engaging dialogues on emergent themes in neurotech and creativity.
  • Paper Presentations – Showcasing cutting-edge research and practice-based explorations.

WHY ATTEND?

Engage with leading researchers, artists, and technologists shaping the future of neurotech and creativity.
Discover cutting-edge applications of neurotechnology in creative industries.
Contribute to critical discussions on ethics, agency, and speculative futures.
Explore practical, theoretical, and speculative perspectives on neurotech’s role in human potential.
Opportunity for publication. An edited book is a potential output of the conference and accepted submissions will be invited to contribute.

Join us for an explorative and forward-thinking dialogue on how neurotechnology is redefining creativity, cognition, and emergent intelligence.
