https://www.intellectbooks.com/explorations-in-media-ecology
[From the National Communication Association (NCA) COMMNotes Conferences, Calls & Announcements e-list (https://www.natcom.org/commnotes/)]

Deadline for submissions: Rolling

Explorations in Media Ecology is now welcoming submissions to the PROBES section of the journal. Probes are short, under 2,000 words, and should be provocative and exploratory pieces that explore emerging ideas or that promote existing scholarship in a form different from the typical academic article. Condensed academic-style articles are accepted, but we also encourage innovative approaches to writing, including but not limited to poetry, axioms, narratives, confessionals, and/or reflections. Generally, EME publishes articles on topics of interest to media ecology, such as the nature of technological mediation, the logic of media forms, the social and psychological impacts of new and emerging communication technologies, and the dynamics of online politics, and any probe on such topics will be considered. Articles that take an ecological perspective – i.e. that describe how media practices or forms alter the sociocultural environment – are preferred. Specifically, this call is soliciting probes on the theme “What’s Next,” which focuses on emerging media such as wearable devices, Artificial Intelligence, self-driving vehicles, drones, biometrics, the Internet of Things, Augmented/Virtual Reality, blockchain, robotics, facial recognition, deep fakes, wetware, and quantum computing. Other submissions of interest to media ecology scholars also accepted.

The deadline is rolling. Please send probes or inquiries to the Probes Editor:
