Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a special issue of the Journal of Lifelong Learning focusing on the intersection of lifelong learning and game studies. We invite submissions for our upcoming themed issue, which will explore the use of games and gamification in educational contexts. The submission deadline for this special issue is September 30, 2025.

The goal of this issue is to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share their insights, findings, and best practices regarding the integration of game-based learning and gamification into lifelong education. We welcome original research papers, case studies, theoretical articles, and literature reviews that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • The role of digital and non-digital games in adult education.
  • Gamification as a tool for increasing motivation and engagement in lifelong learning.
  • The design and implementation of serious games for professional development and training.
  • The impact of educational games on cognitive skills and knowledge acquisition in adults.
  • Ethical considerations and challenges in using games and gamification in education.
  • Theoretical frameworks linking game studies and andragogy (adult learning theory).
  • Case studies of successful game-based learning initiatives in vocational or senior education.

The Journal of Lifelong Learning (ISSN 1804-526X, e-ISSN 1805-8868) is an independent, peer-reviewed scientific journal. It is indexed in the EBSCO and ERIH Plus databases, with the long-term goal of being indexed in Scopus and the Thomson Reuters Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).
