Drama Manager in Motion: Balancing AI-Generated Content with Narrative Structure and Factual Integrity
A Workshop at the ICIDS 2025, the 18th International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling
December 1-5, 2025
Malta and online
Workshop: https://icids2025.ardin.online/drama-manager-in-motion
ICIDS 2025: https://icids2025.ardin.online
This hybrid workshop explores the critical intersection of generative AI and drama management systems, particularly for interactive digital narratives (IDNs) where factual accuracy is paramount. Participants will engage with Arcweave’s Drama Manager prototype to investigate the central question: Can AI-assisted IDNs maintain narrative coherence while securing the integrity of facts?
Through hands-on experimentation with cultural heritage narratives as a testbed, participants will develop practical methodologies for implementing AI drama management. The workshop emphasizes human-machine creative collaboration within structured constraint systems, aligning with ethical practices in serious narrative design. The session concludes with a collaborative reflection where participants share insights, compare outcomes, and engage in critical dialogue about the future of AI-assisted storytelling, addressing ethical considerations and the broader implications for serious games and narrative-driven experiences.
Core Objectives:
- Gain practical insights into integrating generative AI within drama management systems
- Master prompting strategies for maintaining factual accuracy in AI-generated narratives
- Create functional IDN artifacts using constraint-based authoring approaches
- Develop transferable methodologies for accuracy-sensitive narrative domains
- Contribute to critical dialogue on ethical AI-assisted storytelling practices
Optimal workshop capacity: 15-20 participants with mixed experience levels.
The workshop is designed to accommodate participants from diverse backgrounds while ensuring everyone can meaningfully engage with the core challenges of AI-assisted narrative design.
PREPARATION
Pre-Workshop Requirements:
- Basic Familiarity: Participants should have foundational knowledge of interactive narrative authoring tools (no programming experience required)
- Optional Dataset: Bring your own factual dataset or domain-specific content you’d like to explore during the workshop
- Conceptual Preparation: Consider a narrative scenario from your field where factual accuracy is critical (cultural heritage, education, journalism, etc.)
What We’ll Provide:
- Pre-configured cultural heritage template scenarios for those without personal datasets
- Access to Arcweave Drama Manager prototype during the workshop
- Technical guidance and prompting strategy frameworks
