SCOPE

Ten years, and ten years more.

The 11th Conference on Videogame Sciences and Arts will be held on November 27-29, organised by the Departament of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro, and the Society of Video Games Sciences (SPCV). The annual conferences of the SPCV promote the scientific gathering of researchers in Portugal. These conferences are attended by researchers and professionals in the expanded field of videogames – Multimedia, Communication, Technology, Education, Psychology and Arts – to disseminate work and exchange experiences between the academic community and with the industry.

In 2009 the conference was held at University of Aveiro. 2019 will mark the coming back after 10 years. Groundbreaking augmented reality museum exhibit honors D-Day

[A new exhibit at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force near Dayton, Ohio uses augmented reality to help visitors experience and better understand some of the events of D-Day. A telepresence robot for police traffic stops

One solution for keeping traffic stops from turning violent: A robot that separates police officers from drivers.

The machine is designed cut down on confrontations between police officers and motorists by reducing the impact of racial bias.

The fiction/nonfiction divide is a much discussed topic in contemporary analytic aesthetics. According to classic works like Walton’s Mimesis as Make-Believe (1990) and Currie’s The Nature of Fiction (1990), fiction essentially involves imagining whereas nonfiction essentially involves believing. However, more recent works like Friend’s “Fiction as a Genre” (2012) and Matravers’ Fiction and Narrative (2014) have put under pressure this conception of the fiction/nonfiction divide. Ocean and space exploration blend at URI’s Graduate School of Oceanography

KINGSTON, R.I., — May 29, 2019 — Scientists with a NASA-led expedition are operating from the Inner Space Center at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography as colleagues explore the deep Pacific Ocean to prepare to search for life in deep space.

The SUBSEA (Systematic Underwater Biogeochemical Science and Exploration Analog) research program is a partnership among NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Ocean Exploration and Research, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Ocean Exploration Trust and various academic centers that blend ocean and space research to better understand if the watery worlds found on moons and planets in our solar system offer conditions that could support microbial life.… read more. “NASA using telepresence for ocean exploration to prepare for using it to explore space”
