A 1.5 year postdoc position is available in the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience, Bielefeld University, Germany (http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/(en)/biologie/cns/) to work with Prof. Marc Ernst on the EU funded Project “The Hand Embodied – THE” (http://www.thehandembodied.eu/).
In this project a highly interdisciplinary team of 10 European Universities covering fields from perception, neuroscience, engineering and robotics work together with the ultimate goal to understand and learn from the highly sophisticated human dexterous abilities. In our group we are focussing on questions related to human multisensory perception necessary for interacting with the environment and for manipulating objects.
The position will be embedded in a highly interdisciplinary and international research group lead by Prof. Marc Ernst. The focus of the department is on multisensory perception, perception and action, perceptual learning and human-computer interaction. For their experimental work, the group is predominantly relying on behavioral methods from psychophysics and experimental psychology. For this there are many state-of-the-art virtual reality setups available, including different projection systems for visual stimulation, force feedback devices and tactile displays for work on the human haptic system, a noise attenuation camber with an audio setup for work on the auditory system and two treadmill setups including tacking for studies on human locomotion. For the modeling of human behavior, the group heavily relies on the Bayesian Framework for the development of ideal observer models.
The successful candidate should fit in with these interests and should have a background in psychology, biology, computer science, engineering or some neuroscience related field. Programming experience will be advantageous. The position is initially available initially for 1.5 years (with some potential for extension). Salary is according to German Public Service regulations. The position is available immediately. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. The application should include a cover letter stating the candidates research interests, curriculum vita, reprints, and names of three referees. Electronic submission is preferred.
