Technology pervades modern life. Most of us are dependent on ICT and relate to others through it. Digital life appears to be changing experience. This conference explores the impact of the digital world on consciousness and experience. Themes include but are not limited to: the impact of immersion in digital technologies on ways of being, questions around advancing AI and robotics, how people navigate the digital world, use of digital media in applied psychology, education, clinical and health settings, and the role of digital technologies in helping further understanding of human behaviour. We welcome psychologists, philosophers, neuroscientists and others interested in this area. Submissions:

We invite submissions on any topic related to the conference theme including oral papers, symposia, workshops, case studies, short (haiku deck) presentations and poster submissions and are open to other forms of presentation (e.g. debate). See Submission guidelines downloadable from www.bps.org.uk/cep under Events. Submissions (maximum 300 word abstract) via Questback submission system at https://response.questback.com/britishpsychologicalsociety/cepsubmission2017. Papers will normally be allocated 25-45 minutes for presentation and discussion. Symposia and workshops will normally be allocated an hour and a half. Presenters will need to register for the conference.

Submission deadlines:

Oral submissions: Midnight Sunday 2 July 2017 (acceptance decision normally within 4 weeks, latest 30 July). Posters: Midnight 31 July 2017 (acceptance decision normally within four weeks, latest 20 August)

Bursaries:

Five post-graduate student bursaries will be available for accepted oral presentations: Deadline 31st July. See https://response.questback.com/britishpsychologicalsociety/cepbursary2017

Registration:

Registration will be available via www.kc-jones.co.uk/cep2017 or on the CEP Annual Conference link under the Events tab on the CEP website (www.bps.org.uk/cep). The expected residential rate for CEP members is £279, for students/retired £223, for BPS members/affiliates £334 and non-members £363. The corresponding day delegate rates are £185, £148, £203 and £239. One day rates also available. Early bird rate saves 5% and closes in July.

Royal Holloway is two miles from the M25, 15 minutes from Heathrow & 40 minutes from Waterloo by train.

Keynote speakers include:

Professor Susan Greenfield (Oxford University). The 21st Century Mind: Blowing it, Expanding it, Losing it. She addresses the effects on the brain of immersion in social networking & gaming.

Dr Johnny Hartz Søraker (Google). Meaningfulness in the age of digital reproduction.  He addresses the relationship between virtual worlds and personal well-being.

Dr Natalia Kucirkova (University College London). The impact of digital personalisation on children’s experiences of texts and stories. She is concerned with children’s technology & an app to support reading.

Dr Michael Banissy (Goldsmiths, University of London). Sharing the sensations of others: What can mirror-sensory synaesthesia tell us about conscious experience?  He uses brain imaging and non-invasive brain stimulation to examine social perception.
