Call: OzCHI 2014 – Designing Futures: The Future of Design

OzCHI 2014 Designing Futures: the Future of Design

2-5 December 2014 Sydney, Australia

OZCHI is the annual conference for the Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group (CHISIG) of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia, a non-profit event. It is Australia’s leading forum for work in all areas of Human-Computer Interaction. OZCHI attracts an international community of practitioners, researchers, academics and students from a wide range of disciplines including user experience designers, information architects, software engineers, human factors experts, information systems analysts, social scientists or managers. We look forward to your involvement at this year’s OZCHI conference.

This year’s theme is about how we can shape the future of human-centred technology design in a fast changing technology landscape. We invite contributions on all topics related to Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design and the design of interactive technologies, including practical, technical, empirical and theoretical aspects. We particularly welcome contributions from those design approaches that deal with emergent technologies in an ever diversifying environment of use.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Professor Pelle Ehn is professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Malmö University, Sweden. He has been involved in the research field of participatory design and in bridging design and information technology for four decades (!). Research projects include DEMOS from the seventies on information technology and work place democracy, UTOPIA from the eighties on user participation and skill based design, ATELIER from the last decade on architecture and technology for creative environments, and during the last years Malmö Living Labs, on open design environments for social innovation. His publications include Computers and Democracy (1987), Work-Oriented Design of Computer Artifacts (1988), Manifesto for a Digital Bauhaus (1998), and as one of the voices of A.Telier Design Things (2011). Later publications include Agonistic participatory design (CoDesign), Design Matters in Participatory Design (International handbook on Participatory Design), Design Things versus Design Thinking (Design Issues), Utopian Design (Design and Anthropology), What is the object of design (CHI), and Making Futures (forthcoming).

Associate Professor Frank Vetere is leader of the Interaction Design Lab and the Director of the Microsoft Research Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces (Social-NUI), at The University of Melbourne. Frank¹s research aims to generate knowledge about the use and design of information and communication technologies (ICT) for human wellbeing and social benefit. His research interests are in social computing (especially Social NUIs), technologies for ageing-well, and domestic technologies (especially those that contribute to everyday familial interactions)
