While the advances of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Gaming technologies are breathtaking taking into account the ever increasing power of mobile computing devices, the research community is challenged to investigate the factors that make computer graphics technologies effective, productive but also fun and engaging. Realizing the goals of VR, AR and Gaming and harnessing them to successful applications could be accomplished by human-centered design, employing robust evaluation metrics and human-centered experimentation. The quality of interfaces and platforms implemented could be designed employing information about the human perceptual system and assessed from a human factors engineering point of view. The goal would be to understand the way humans perceive VR and AR worlds across a range of displays including 3D TV and 3D cinema and assess the effectiveness of such technologies for different applications.

This workshop seeks high quality, previously unpublished work on human-centered design and evaluation of computer graphics technologies focusing on AR, VR and Gaming across a range of displays. Topics of this workshop include (but are not limited to):

  • User studies and evaluation of AR, VR and Gaming
  • Mobile AR, VR and Gaming
  • Serious games
  • Presence and 3D spatial cognitions
  • 3D navigation
  • Attention-optimized AR, VR and Gaming, eye tracking
  • Collaborative and networked AR, VR and Gaming
  • Multi-sensory 3D interfaces (haptics, audio, etc.)
  • Sense of presence
  • Fidelity metrics for simulations, minimizing system deficiencies such as latency
  • Immersive gaming – 3D Interaction for VR and 3D user interfaces
  • Perception-based algorithms for modeling spaces and humans, rendering, animation and 3D interfaces for AR, VR and Gaming
  • Computational aesthetics of AR, VR and Gaming
  • Perception-based non-photorealistic graphics
  • Human-centered multi-modal interaction interfaces for immersive VR as well as for interactive/3D TV and cinema
  • Correct matching between the psychophysical characteristics of displays and the human sensory and motor systems
  • Applications in education, medicine, humanities, etc.

All accepted papers will be published in the VRCAI 2011 Conference Proceedings and will be included in the ACM digital library. Papers should follow the conference template found here: http://liama.ia.ac.cn/vrcai2011/topics.html  Please submit through the EasyChair system at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vrcaivrar2011
