The Oxford Internet Institute is a leading centre for research into individual, collective, and institutional behaviour on the Internet. We are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to collaborate with Professor Luciano Floridi on existing and plausible, foreseeable ethical challenges and opportunities posed by AI and our interactions with AI.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be a member of the Digital Ethics Lab, will elaborate new analyses and hypotheses, review the literature, and publish the results, in collaboration with Professor Floridi. The selected candidate will also contribute to the dissemination of the findings through research and review articles, presentations, the organisation of workshops, participation into conferences, and social media.

The position is suited to candidates who have recently completed a doctorate in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, machine learning, with a clear and provable interest in ethical, legal or social implications (ELSI) of artificial intelligence. The list is not exclusive and other degrees may be relevant, if combined with a proven interest (e.g. publication, organisation of workshops and panel, and talks) in the ELSI analysis of AI.

Excellent writing, presentation abilities, and analytical skills are required. A record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals and the proven ability to obtain research funding, both commensurate with the stage of the candidate’s academic career, are very desirable.

This position is available from 1 October 2017 for 18 months in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal thereafter, funding permitting.

Please note that you may only apply through the Oxford University’s recruitment website.

Only applications received before 12:00pm BST on Thursday 3 August 2017 will be considered.

Interviews for those short-listed are currently planned to take place on week commencing 4 September 2017.
