UCC seeks to recruit a Research Professor in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) to drive and expand the university’s commitment to human-centred design of digital futures, with a particular focus on health and wellbeing. The pivotal position of user experience in understanding the current use of health and wellbeing-related technologies and in imagining future uses is widely acknowledged in research and in commercial application. This Professorship will provide strategic leadership in developing the scientific and design knowledge and practice required to realize technologies that are sensitive to user experience.

The successful candidate will be based in UCC’s School of Applied Psychology, a highly active centre of research, graduate education and accredited undergraduate formation. The Research Professor will play a leadership role in strengthening the School’s internationally-recognised research and deepening the School’s international academic and industrial relationships in HCI. The successful candidate will build on the School’s research strengths in experience-centred design of IT, including in health and ageing contexts. Candidates should have demonstrated vision and leadership in relevant areas of HCI, ability for interdisciplinary leadership, and a record of achievement in areas related to HCI, health, and wellbeing. Excellence in attracting research funding, developing a research team, and in research training is expected. Most of all, we seek candidates with the imagination, energy, and commitment to making a game-changing contribution to human-centred design of IT for health and wellbeing.

The Professorship appointment in each instance is dependent on success within the SFI Targeted Professorship Programme which provides €1,000,000 per annum in direct costs for five years to support the work of the Professor and their research group.
