The GameDays are fully dedicated to Serious Games and technologies, research concepts and methods for the creation, control/management and evaluation of Serious Games in a broad spectrum of application domains beyond pure entertainment.

Scientists and practitioners are cordially invited to present their latest research achievements and best-practice results and to submit full papers (e.g., surveys, reports of new research approaches that cover related work, new concepts and at least first user studies), short papers (e.g. best-practice results or new ideas and concepts, not necessarily empirically assessed with an evaluation study), demo papers (description of implemented games, products and prototypes), poster presentations (new ideas, research approaches, work in progress) or workshop proposals (2 hours or half day).

Topics include, but are not limited to:

Theory & Technology: Scientific concepts, methods, algorithms and tools for

  • the creation, development and design of Serious Games: authoring principles, authoring tools, support for non-programmers, collaborative authoring, game design, serious games model, (procedural) content creation, user-generated content
  • the control and management of Serious Games: play experience and interactions, personalisation and adaptation, player and context models, platform characteristics and use of next-gen-technologies for Serious Games, games and social networks, collaboration, competition, game mastering, interfaces and sensor technology such as vital sensors, augmented and mixed reality
  • the evaluation of Serious Games: effects and affects, usability, user experience and game experience, evaluation methodologies, models and metrics, sensor technology

Best-Practice Examples & Application Domains: Serious Games commercial releases and prototypes, field reports and evaluation studies, business models and market studies in areas such as

  • education, training and simulation: from kindergarten to games at school and university or collaborative workplace training sports and health: prevention, rehabilitation and therapy, exergames, coordination, strength and circuit training
  • marketing and advertisement: corporate identity, advergames, recruitment
  • culture and tourism: mobile guides and explorer, location-based games, geo-caching, city marketing
  • participation and planning: e-participation, urban planning, architecture; awareness, compliance and preparedness of policies and procedures
  • societal games: social impact games, news games, editorial/rhetorical games, political campaign games, identity and culture
  • crowdsourcing games: formal software verification, computation of models

SUBMISSION

Length of contributions:

  • Full papers: 8 – 12 pages
  • Short papers and demo papers: 4-6 pages
  • Poster presentations: 2-4 pages
  • Workshop proposals: 1-2 pages (title, abstract, organizer, length: 2 hours or half day)

Format and Template:

Submission Schedule:

  • October 1, 2013  –  Paper submission deadline (for all categories)
  • November 15, 2013  –  Notification of acceptance
  • January 10, 2014  –  Camera ready version

All papers will be reviewed by a Scientific Committee (at least three reviews per submission)
