ICCE 2012 Workshop On “Real Education in Virtual Worlds: Foreign Language Learning and Teaching”

Date: November 26, 2012 (Monday) ~ November 30, 2012 (Friday), Singapore. Held in conjunction with The 20th International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE2012)

Description: The practices of educational applications in virtual worlds have obtained many concerns among educators and researchers over the past few years. To respond the increasing demands of practitioners applying virtual worlds in educational settings, the first workshop on Real Education in Second Life was held in conjunction with The 18th International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE2010). To expand the participations and influences, the second workshop on Real Education in Second Life was renamed as Real Education in Virtual Worlds on 19th ICCE2011. We had a fruitful harvest in the workshop last year. The theme of this year will focus on foreign language learning and teaching (FLLT). All the researchers and educators of language learning and teaching or educational applications in virtual worlds such as Second Life, online games, virtual reality, augmented reality, etc. are very welcome to join us. A forum will be provided in this two-hour workshop for international participants to share knowledge, experiences, and concerns on related issues in Virtual Worlds and explore the directions for future research collaborations.

Scope of interests includes, but not limited to:

  • Theoretical foundations of foreign language learning and teaching (FLLT)
  • Soft technologies of FLLT
  • Hard technologies of FLLT
  • Emerging ICT tools and applications for FLLT
  • Language learning strategies & learning styles in situated learning for FLLT
  • Digital content development for FLLT
  • Assessment & evaluation of FLLT
  • Blended learning & hybrid course of FLLT
  • Socio-cultural perspectives and implications of education in FLLT
  • Teachers’ professional development for translation and scaling up of FLLT
  • FLLT in open, distance and flexible learning contexts
  • FLLT in informal learning (e.g., libraries, academic support services, student societies/guilds, careers, alumni, marketing and recruitment)

Paper submission

  • Paper length: 4-8 pages, A4 size
  • Language: English
  • Submission: email attachment to icce2012.revw.llt@gmail.com, each paper will be reviewed by at least two reviewers.

Paper Format: The maximum page length is 8 pages and the format follows the template in Author Guidelines of ICCE 2012 (http://www.lsl.nie.edu.sg/icce2012/call-for-papers/author-guidelines/).

  • Acceptance notifications: September 2, 2012
  • Final version deadline for workshop paper: October 2, 2012
