Research Fellow – Interactive Newsprint Project
University of Surrey – Sociology – Digital World Research Centre

Salary: up to £30,870 per annum

Applications are invited for a full time Research Fellow to work on the Interactive Newsprint project. This project aims to develop a new interactive paper technology for community news display. The post holder will be responsible for lab based studies on the project, measuring user interactions with early prototypes and conducting group discussions. The post is available for 12 months from 1st October 2011.

The researcher will be based at Digital World Research Centre at the University of Surrey and supervised by Professor David Frohlich. Surrey is one of three universities and one company involved in the project, which is itself part of Digital Economy research programme in the UK:

Project work will therefore involve collaboration with other groups, and travel to UK project and programme meetings.

The post would suit an experimental or educational psychologist with interests in multimedia literacies. Candidates should have a first degree in psychology. Candidates should also hold a second degree and a PhD (or near completion) in psychology, linguistics, communication or human computer interaction. The postholder will be required to have specialised training or research experience in experimental design and interviewing.

Digital World Research Centre is a multidisciplinary research group doing user-centred research and social innovation in the digital media area. It is based within the Sociology Department, with additional links to Psychology, Computing, Management and Engineering at Surrey.
